Our Goal

Happy Sunday!

First off, Thank you Mike and Kathryn for your kind word of encouragement, testimony and love. I believe we have all grown, for the better, because of this production because we have grown closer to Christ. My whole goal throughout this production focused on two thoughts.
Mary's line in 2.4: If you follow Him, and REMEMBER HIM, you will always have Him near.
And, a scripture I heard more than once yesterday, {Doctrine & Covenants 1:19-23}: The weak things of the world shall come forth and break down the mighty and strong ones, that man should not counsel his fellow man, neither trust in the arm of flesh--- But that every man might speak in the name of God the Lord, even the Savior of the World; That faith also might increase in the earth; that mine everlasting covenant might be established; That the fulness of my gospel might be proclaimed by the weak and the simple unto the ends of the world before kings and rulers.

Yes, this is a musical production. And yes, we all want to do our best so it doesn't fail. However, neither of those is our primary goal. Our primary goal is, and should always be, to speak the name of the Lord, and Savior, Jesus Christ. My whole goal I've said from the beginning, is to help all involved (cast, crew, audience) to REMEMBER HIM! He is the way to Salvation and Eternal Life. Sometimes I feel like one of those 'weak things,' but it helps to to know that the weak things can break down the strong IF they are following the Lord.

I do my best to always have His spirit welcome in our rehearsals; I want it to permeate EVERYTHING we do regarding the production because THAT IS WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT! The Holy Ghost needs to be present in order to testify of the Savior. And, I'm sorry for those moments where I forgot. As we come to the end of our production together, as long as we remember WHY and WHO we are doing this for, everything will work out. I know that's why all our production problems have had solutions. I know that is why we feel the spirit often and why so many people are interested in this play. They are interested because they've heard it before; they may not remember, but that's why we are doing this--- to HELP THEM REMEMBER!

So, feel of His spirit today--- as you watch/listen to {conference} and remember "Him who redeemed us."

I love you all, dearly.

With that said, rehearsal schedule for this week is UP on the blog----see above

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE--- EVERYONE COME TO THE REST OF REHEARSALS!!! WE NEED YOU!!!!

Thanks for everything.

Rehearsal: March 24th & 26th

Every Rehearsal from NOW ON is in the CULTURAL HALL!!! WOO HOO!

Here's what I ask: since we have to strike (take down) the set after every rehearsal, I ask that we move our start time to 6:00 PM on Thursdays and 8:45 AM on Saturdays. This way we have time to put in all together and hopefully, get started with our actual rehearsing by (the latest) 6:30.

I expect EVERYONE to attend rehearsals starting SATURDAY MARCH 26th. THIS SATURDAY! That's our costume fitting, and the day I have set aside to add choir into the background.

Here's what we're working on this week:

Thursday, March 24th, 6-9pm:

Opening (Scene 1.1-1.3) and Closing (2.5-3.2) segments of the show. I need as much of the cast there as possible--- if you have possible resurrected extras (because our old REs are really Choir members) for scene 1.3. BRING THEM THURSDAY!

Saturday, March 16th, 9am-130pm (depending):

9-10: Choir Rehearsal
10-when we finish: add choir into scenes, find costumes--everyone needs to come!!!, and watch SOTW dvd.
12-when finished: Individual Solo Rehearsal for #25, maybe #36

Thanks everyone!

CHANGE in TOMORROW'S Rehearsal

Hello again!

It came to my attention last night that, even though I switched the rehearsals for yesterday and tomorrow, a lot of people didn't realize it until they got there and saw the confused look on my face as to why you were there. We're now a month into the production and, I don't know if y'all noticed, but I like to use email as my biggest form of communication, texting being my second. (I dropped the texting ball yesterday and forgot to send that one out--sorry).

Honestly, with two toddler kiddos, I would have a hard time calling everyone to remind them about rehearsal; we have a rather large cast and I need to use the little extra time I have to not work on this magnificent production, taking care of my family.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE check your email and/or the blog to MAKE SURE YOU KNOW if and when you need to come to rehearsal. The schedule will continue to get moved around as we adjust for absences in previous (and upcoming because of Spring Break) rehearsals--- so IT IS IMPERATIVE that you CHECK THE BLOG and/or YOUR EMAIL! Thanks for reading my rant; I'm off my soapbox now.

Since attendance has been sparse at some rehearsals, this is what I expect for tomorrow (please be on time)---it was hard to start on time yesterday when we have a lot of characters in the scene.

This has changed since the beginning of the week, so pay attention ;)

9:00am-9:45 am

Scene 2.3: James, John, Peter, Cleopas, Disciple, Savior, Andrew, Matthew, Thaddeus, Phillip, James Alphaeus, Simon Zelotes, Nathanael, Disciple 1, Disciple 2, Disciple 3

10:00-11:00 am

Scene 2.5: James, Thomas, John, Peter, The Savior, Andrew, Matthew, Thaddeus, Phillip, James Alphaeus, Simon Zelotes, Nathanael

11:00am- 12:00pm

Finish Scene 1.2 & 2.2: Disciple and Cleopas

12:15- 2:00pm

The REST of 3.2--- CLOSING OF THE SHOW----EVERYONE NEEDS TO BE THERE

A couple things to bring to your attention:
  • Remember, we now have rehearsal on Wednesday, March 16th from 6-9 in the Cultural Hall. I'd like to finish the closing of the show, start the OPENING, and rework 2.1.
  • If you CANNOT make a rehearsal PLEASE let me know before I miss your lovely presence at the actual rehearsal--- we only have NINE rehearsals left until we perform for an audience!
  • SHOES: You will be responsible for the shoes to wear with your costume. In the email, I attached a document that has what styles would be approved, if you have a question--- ASK ME! I'm pretty approachable! ;) The good thing is these styles are pretty popular now, so you shouldn't have a hard time finding some. Chorus, you don't need shoes unless you're an extra in scenes 2.1 and 2.4.
  • STAGE and TECH HELP: WE NEED EXTRA HELP. If you know anyone who would like to work with Costumes, Lighting, Sound, Makeup & Hair, Stage Crew, Set & Advertising.... PLEASE GIVE THEM THIS EMAIL ADDRESS or GIVE ME THEIR NAMES and CONTACT INFO!
  • EXTRAS: I need a bunch more people to help out by being resurrected beings in scene 1.3. We'll use the choir as extras, but I need more bodies to create the effect. Just like the stage/tech help, if you know anyone that's interested, please give them this email to contact me ASAP! We can use ALL AGES!
I think that's it for now---- Thanks again for your willing participation in this production!

UPDATE

Happy Monday!
  • Rehearsal schedule for the week is up on the blog. Thursday is 3.1 and 3.2 up to show closing; 630 to 9, as always. Saturday is 1.2, 2.2, 2.3, 2.5 and the SHOW opening; 9-2 and go to the BLOG to find out what times I want you there. Just a reminder, come 10 minutes earlier, so we're not waiting for you.
  • We have the option to ADD ANOTHER REHEARSAL next Wednesday, March 16th. I want to add it. I would like to rework 2.1 and 2.4 and then do the OPENING and CLOSING of the show. We are able to have the cultural hall that night, so we'd be rehearsing in our actual performance space. This is why I want to add it. Times would be from 6-9.
  • Don't forget to go to the East Stake's production this week. Either their Dress Rehearsal, Wednesday the 9th at 7 or Friday at 7, Saturday at 4 or 7. Email saeaststaketickets@gmail.com to let them know if you're not coming to the Dress.
  • WEDNESDAY, I'm up for carpooling, if we want to meet at the stake center at 6 and head over there. Let me know if you're interested and/or wouldn't mind driving. We all need to save on gas these days! It's also your chance to pin me down and ask questions! ;)
  • The address for their performance is 8801 Midcrown Drive, Windcrest, TX 78239
  • When you go pay particular attention to your character and ask yourself two things: what do you like about this actors' portrayal and what you don't like... then REPORT to ME at next rehearsal.
  • On that note, please, please, please research your character. Obviously, please use cation when you are looking at resources. Use PRAYER and the inspiration from the HOLY GHOST to find what you're looking for. I want you to understand where they are coming from and what they are feeling as these events unfolded. Imagine to have believed that the Resurrection was just an abstract concept and then to have the Resurrected Savior standing in front of you? How would that have felt?
Thanks everyone for your participation and service!

On the main stage itself we have four color-coded platforms. RED is 1' off the ground, YELLOW is 2' off ground and 8' by 12', BLUE is 3' off ground and same size and yellow, GREEN is 1' off ground and 4' by 16'.

Newest News

Happy Tuesday, everyone!

There's a few things I would like to send out this time around:
  • Thursday's Rehearsal: From 6:30 to 8pm, we are working on 2.4. Ideally, I would LOVE to finish this scene, so cross your fingers and BE ON TIME! Then from 8-9pm we have a CHOIR REHEARSAL. If you are not in 2.4, I expect you to be waiting to start at 8, not arriving at that time. Please, please, please give yourself time to be on time. ;)
  • Blog: We'll do our best to update this more--- http://samusical2011.blogspot.com. By the end of the night, I'll have a diagram of the stage up for y'all to have and I'll post all of the emails I send out. I'll also do my best to send reminder texts to everyone who has that capability. Each Sunday, I'll have a update up to what we'll be rehearsing that week, so remember to check then!
  • East Stake Play: I was wrong about the days--- sorry! There dates are NEXT WEEK! They've asked us to come to their Dress Rehearsal next Wednesday the 9th at 7pm. Please let me know, ASAP, if you can come to that one. If not, I would like you to go to one of their performances that weekend. Friday, March 11th at 7 or Saturday, March 12th at 4pm or 7pm. If you decide to go to one of their performances please email saeaststaketickets@gmail.com to reserve seats. You don't need tickets, but they'd like to know how many people will attend.
  • Missing Choir Members: We need a few (3-4) more women for the choir. If you know anyone who's interested PLEASE invite them to come to Thursday's Choir practice.
  • Extras & Helpers: We'll also need a few more extras for the resurrection scene. if you know of anyone who'd want to be on the stage for a couple minutes only and doesn't want to sing in the choir, please give them my contact info. Also, start getting the word out for the help we need
As always, feel free to email me with any questions or concerns.

A Few Things

It's me again! Ya'll better get used to it because this is how it's going to be until mid-April! Here are some things brought to my attention:

LISTENING TO MUSIC: If you'd like a chance to hear the Conference Center (original production) recordings again, you can do one of two things: 1--- buy a copy for a little over $10 at the Distribution Center on SA Temple grounds 2---ask to borrow mine to burn to your computer, ipod, phone, whatever. In borrowing mine, I expect it to be back in my hands by the next rehearsal so someone else can borrow it again. Plus, you better be nice to it, since it's my personal copy. ;)

FACIAL HAIR: Men, grow it out unless you are JOHN, DISCIPLE, or SAMUEL. Everyone else may attempt to grow it out. If, during this process, it looks kind of strange, I might ask you to groom.... please, please, PLEASE don't be offended.

REHEARSAL SWITCH: I would like to switch scenes on March 10th and 12th. SO---- on the 10th we'll be working on Scenes 3.1 and 3.2--- the 12th from 9am-12pm I'd like to work on finishing 1.2, 2.2 & 2.4. Then we'll work on 2.3 and 2.5. THEN EVERYONE COME AT 1230 to work in adding extras to a few scenes.

As for TONIGHT we're working on 1.3, 2.1 and Cleopas' part in 1.2, maybe 2.2

Thanks all, I really appreciate your willingness to be apart of this production!

Track Listings and Next Rehearsal

Now that everyone's been given a few days to process the first rehearsal, I realized I forgot to mention a few things:

  1. If you did NOT make it to this past rehearsal, come for the first part of THIS THURSDAYS rehearsal to get your music, cd, schedule and script. Then, you'll know if you have to stay for the rest of the night. ;)
  2. I failed to give you a track listing for the CD. Sorry. I'll post the rough cues for each of the songs (that's what the copied notes are in your scripts). I did my best to get the approx cue. Also, I'm sure you've noticed the choir sings with the accompaniment on this CD. By performance I want to be singing with the accompaniment CD ONLY--- however, this is largely up to y'all and how often you practice at home.
  3. CHANGE IN FEED THY SHEEP FOR THOMAS AND PETER: I want to give Thomas' solo at the beginning to Peter. I think having Peter, James and John singing at the beginning of that song would give a better effect. (plus Thomas has his own song earlier in the play ;).
  4. NEXT REHEARSAL IS THURSDAY, same place as before. We will be working on scenes 1.3 and 2.1. I thought we would need the choir and resurrected extras, but we'll put them in these scenes when we go through them again in March. I want to do initial blocking with Mary Magdelene, Samuel the Lamanite, James, Thomas, Mary Mother of James, Salome, Joanna, John, Peter, and Mary.
  5. The next rehearsal after that will be on MARCH 3rd. That will be scenes 1.2, 2.2, 2.4 with a Choir rehearsal (which EVERYONE needs to attend) at 8.
If you have any questions, feel free to email the samusical account.
